Dean x Castiel Parallels - Help | 4x18 + 6x21
Reminds of me that post where someone was like “Cas is manipulating Dean emotionally by asking for his help like that in 6.21!” Haha, really? really? Are we watching the same show? I already made a post chronicling the times Dean/Sam ask Cas for help (by threatening him/threatening to take away their friendship/forcing him to choose them when he’s clearly torn) compared to the times Cas asked for help, which may I say is RARELY. I could probably count on one hand. (No threats, just pleading for someone to be there for him for once, usually with a mutual goal that benefits the Winchesters anyway) And guess how frequently they helped him compared to him helping them.
Yea, so anyone that doesn’t see that and accuses Cas of just being a jerk ‘betrayer’; I just can’t take seriously. Even if you’re not a fan of his, you have to admit he got the short stick pretty much every time. Sam and Dean have each other. They have Bobby. Cas never had anyone like that (maybe super briefly during the glorious TFW stint in Season 5 when they actually treated him like their friend).
It’s really sad, and honestly this is a huge part of why I defend Cas so much and am forgiving of his actions. Besides the fact most of his ‘betrayal’ is dead on with what the Winchesters themselves have done (don’t get me started on the blatant hypocrisy and horrific writing in this aspect in Seasons 6 and 7- lol too late); he’s totally alone and their relationship in Season 6 was practically emotional abuse on their part. Is it shocking the poor guy had a breaking point? That unfortunately caused me to be bitter and start to resent the brothers last season. Aside from a couple of decent episodes; the writing in the overall season was just so poor, it was just completely illogical at times. Their butthurt over Cas not obeying their every whim got obnoxious, fast.
While it was still douchey; I’ll let the instance above slide. I mean, as far as Season 4 is concerned. Not forgiving Dean for his grudges in Season 6, truly I think a lot of the issues (sam’s wall, Balthazar dying, the leviathans, godstiel etc..) could have been prevented or lessened in effect at the very least if Dean had tried to talk to Cas and be there for him. The impending apocalypse by Raph was ALL their problem. They could have shown some concern. What did they expect their plan to just ignore Cas and not be his friend anymore or ‘kill him’ to accomplish? They would have still been screwed. What did they plan to do about Raphael? Crowley? It was never even brought up.
Again, another example of the awful writing. Such complete non sense. They didn’t have to help him open purgatory but they could have tried to support him in finding alternatives instead of being all butt hurt and overreacting. May I add this was before all the drama with Sam, Bobby’s g/f..etc went down btw. So them being all whiny over his ‘betrayal’ was just straight BS at this point, imo. They were completely oblivious to everything that was going on that didn’t concern them directly. It made them look bad, not him, imo.
Anyway I get in Season 4 Dean was still having a hard time trusting Cas, I mean they hardly knew each other. And while Cas still clearly cared for Dean and died for him, even then (again, is it hard to see why I love him?) - it was fairly one sided at the time -but I get that in Season 4 they didn’t have the same relationship as they do now.
Still, Season 5 really explored that and it was exciting. And I remember thinking it was nice, but random Cas was gonna be in Season 6. I was worried where they would go with their friendship and his role and right off the bat they (coughseracough) flushed that down the drain. *sigh*
I really hope Misha/Cas is picked up for the 8th season. I want to see what Carver might do different in regards to his story. Friendship was a big aspect of his previous work and other stuff he’s worked on so I really hope he brings that back. I would be devastated to have Carver back but no Cas.
THIS So much.
What grieves me most about how Cas and the whole Godstiel story has been handled is that practically every choice he has made he learnt through the Winchesters-yet he was still a better friend for a LONG time. He still treated them better than the example they showed him, which speaks volumes about how he feels and who Cas is beneath the soldier. Yet they seemed oblivious to it. He adopted the way they treat each other as how he treated them and was still better at it than they are to each other at times.
I hated HATED that the writers used Cas to break Sam’s wall. I wish that could be undone. It sucked ass.
Everything else though? Would it be too much to have Dean not be a guilty angsty mofo and actually just fucking man up and say you know what? We weren’t exactly great friends to you. I am NOT saying I think the brothers are to blame for Cas’s actions-but they definitely had a hand in making him feel NOT like family, only to use that as the card to make him stop you know trying to save the world.
Actions speak louder than words. I am just so fed up of them writing all these lessons into the show, making it perfectly clear who (and how) Cas learnt to wield Free Will from yet when he messes it up or doesn’t HEEL they just ignore it?
Cas fucked up BIG. His pride got in the way at certain points and he lost himself in the whys of war.
Dean fucked up by acting like a complete dick to the angel that was his best friend at one point just because he didn’t fucking call BIG WHOOP. You coulda called him dumbass. Then he proceeds to spend the season 6 “testing” Cas and treating him like a pet.
They even addressed it on the show with Rachel. But Dean just gives him the whatever face. I mean, who would want to be friends with Dean and Sam?
The half hearted we’re here if you need us in Caged Heat was kinda lame after mocking him, Sam threatening him, yet still Cas admits he would rather be there than in heaven…
Its a bit sad when the angel has more personal growth than the leads ya know?
